Lawrence and Memorial Cancer Center - Waterford, CT

Northeast Contractors, Inc. completed one of the first IPD (Integrated Project Delivery) Projects in New England. The new Lawrence and Memorial Cancer Center is a new facility located in Waterford, CT. This was a challenging site project due to sloping rock terrain, utility stream crossings, drilling and blasting rock, geothermal construction and general proximity to existing wetlands. A utility corridor over 2 miles in length was created through wooded and wetland areas to connect the sewer and domestic water mains to the existing town systems.

The earthwork process for the project included 16,000 cubic yards of open blast rock and 2,000 cubic yards of trench rock removal, utilizing both blasting and mechanical removal methods. Majority of the blasted rock was processed and re-used on site as fill and pavement base materials.

The overall project budget was approximately $32 Million Dollars with the site work value of $4 Million Dollars. The IPD team was able to realized savings of $1.2 Million Dollars during the construction process. Northeast Contractors, Inc. was able to value engineer in house the original site work by $500,000 over the 10 month design and engineering.  We successfully interacted with the IPD team and the owner to make this challenging project a success.
